Anaesthetic Trivia - Curare
Curare is a compound used for dart poisons by tribes in South America. It is derived from vines such as, Chondrodendron tomentosum and Strychnos toxifera. The first non-depolarising muscle blocking agent, d-Tubocurarine, was identified in 1935 by Harold King. It was found in curare that had been packed in hollow tubes.

... Don't believe a word of the description above - it is wrong! Now I hate anatomy, and find it dull and unmemorable. Dr Goldberg shares your pain; he's a Professor of anatomy in the States, who presents the subject in an entertaining, amusing and MEMORABLE manner; using mnemonics, silly stories and easily reproducible line diagrams. This is the place to read about "Willis the spider" and what happened to the Brachial Plexus at the Disco(!) - as well as all the other USEFUL and SENSIBLE areas of anatomy required for both primary and final FRCA. Don't bother with Erdmann (to many errors, and a terrible read!); get this! Cheaper, better, and a damn site more fun! |
