How to Claim Travel Expenses

Many trainees didn't realise that we can reclaim travel expenses when working in hospitals away from our base hopsital (RHH). The Travel Expenses form needs to be filled in, signed by your College Tutor at your DGH and then sent to the Anaesthetics Department at the Hallamshire.

To help you out, here is a little information to save you going to the Hallamshire and looking for the piece of paper on the wall that tells you the official mileages:

Official mileage, possibly at 23p per mile (see comments below)

 RHH to Rotherham  10.5 miles
 RHH to Barnsley  16 miles
 RHH to Doncaster  25 miles
 RHH to Bassetlaw  18 miles
 RHH to Chesterfield  15 miles
RHH to London (!)  164 miles

Incidently, one of the supernumes rang and clarified that the amount you can claim per mile is based on your car size etc. So the advice was to complete the forms but not fill in the £0.23 per mile. They will do this and possibly will be more than this, which is the rate for public transport.

That's interesting. I must admit, I'd never filled in the price per mile just in case... That means we might actually get what is set out by NHS employers - http://www.nhsemployers.org/pa...s-3179.cfm Good news if you cycle because you may be able to claim for the mileage. 10p per mile is better than nothing!
