Anaesthetic Trivia - Macintosh
Robert Reynolds Macintosh (1897-1989), New Zealand-born anaesthetist, became the first British Professor of Anaesthetics in Oxford in 1937 and was a key figure in the foundation of academic anaesthesia. A pioneer, he designed his eponymous laryngoscope, spray, endobronchial tube and vaporiser.

For those who need help / guidance with calculating doses of drugs for Paediatric cases - then this looks like a very useful resource. It can either be used as a web based calculator or downloaded as an Excel spreadsheet to your PDA. Have a look : http://www.paediatriccalculator.com/

... ALso, for those with iPhones, I'd thoroughly recommend PaedsED. It's really simple, just put in the childs age, and calculates everything you can think of in a very logical layout (eg WETFAG for APLS calculations). I haven't been through it and formally checked the anaesthetic drug doses yet but the APLS calculations are accurate. Michael |
