Anaesthetic Trivia - Curare
Curare is a compound used for dart poisons by tribes in South America. It is derived from vines such as, Chondrodendron tomentosum and Strychnos toxifera. The first non-depolarising muscle blocking agent, d-Tubocurarine, was identified in 1935 by Harold King. It was found in curare that had been packed in hollow tubes.

AOL users - can you log on? Let me know Hi Everyone Hope you're all enjoying a bit of sunshine. I just wanted to let you know about some of the stuff that is going on with the website and ask for some help. The website is now ticking over nicely with a good flow of people visiting. Hopefully the changes have made it a more user friendly experience and a bit faster. The majority of traffic heads to the rotas and assessment documents and I've tried to make them easier to access. Another change you may not realise is that the gallery section now allows you to upload photos to albums that are already there. Please can you email me if you have some incriminating photos that need a new album and I'll sort it out for you. The photos are one of my favourite bits so do put up any that you have! We now have a reviews section which will have listings of books and course. Currently, only the books section is up and running with general and Primary revision textbooks. The idea is that this will be a useful resource for junior and new starter anaesthetists. I'd like to get as many comments and ratings for these books as possible so please have a look. I also would like to know of any titles that you think should be there and also recommendations for neuroanaesthesia, obstetric, paediatric texts so I can add them too. The section will then be more useful for the senior members. The courses section will be ready soon and will have the majority of anaesthesia related courses countrywide. This will again rely on users rating and commenting. The idea is that you can see which are the useful courses and compare them easily. As you can imagine this all takes time and effort. I'd like to have some people to help and so here is a list of things that need doing. Anyone who is interested, please drop me a line.
That's about it so hopefully I'll hear from some of you soon. Matt
